St. Croix Restaurant and Dining Guide

Popular Places to Pull a Chair Up to the Table

Even if your St. Croix lodging accommodations provide you with meals, in-room appliances, and/or onsite eateries, eventually you'll likely want to venture out and sample some of the islands other cuisine. St. Croix is literally peppered with restaurants to meet your dining needs.

Maybe the kids are begging for a pizza or your new bride would like to find a cozy little nook for just the two of you to share a candlelight dinner. Below are just some of the most popular dining spots based on the specific hunger that you might have.

Best Place for Breakfast and Lunch

Regardless if you want to start your day on St. Croix with a happy belly or you're out and about and need to grab a bite for lunch, The Avocado Pit can easily fill the pit in your stomach. At this Christiansted favorite, even the locals come here for the Caribbean and American entrees, as well as the vegetarian ones.

"Rib-sticking" is the description most often applied to this establishment. From Kahuna burgers to soy burgers, palates are pleased.

You can even sit outside and watch as the boats depart from Kings Wharf for Buck Island. The only heartbreaker is they're closed for dinner. On the upside, you can ask for a boxed lunch to go and enjoy it later on the beach or another favorite spot of your choosing.

Best Place for Sharing a Meal with Children

If you're traveling with children, regardless of their age, conch fritters aren't likely to satisfy their craving for some French fries. Let Cheeseburgers in Paradise come to the rescue.

A short ride from Christiansted, this open-air restaurant has plenty of room for kids to run around and burn off some energy. Many are surprised that such a casual atmosphere is capable of serving up such delicious food. You'll literally feel like you're in the company of friends and relatives at a cookout or tailgate party.

Spicy ribs, nachos, and crab cakes share a table with monster-size burgers. You can wash it all down with the drink of your choice from the full bar. One of the most common compliments about this food-filled Paradise is how deliciously cold the beer is. Sounds like Paradise!

Several extra bonuses... Paradise is open seven days a week (has a nice ring to it) and live music can be enjoyed Thursdays through Sunday beginning at 7pm. If you don't get your fill of this place for lunch, you can always come back for dinner. You'll never get tired of visiting Paradise.

Best Place for a Romantic Meal

Granted, everyone's definition of what creates romantic ambiance is as varied as the couple's that are in search of it. However, if it's candlelight, fine wine, and a close seat to your sweetie that you have in mind, Savant can easily fill your romantic feasting fantasies.

Small in size, this dinner-only Christiansted nook with less than two dozen tables serves "off-the-chart" highly rated meals. Dishes feature a mixture of Thai, Mexican, and Caribbean flavors. It's likely that you won't leave St. Croix without running into at least one person who sings the praises of Savant's maple teriyaki pork tenderloin and various curries.

The only thing you'll be disappointed about is if you try to get in without a reservation. Plan ahead for a smooth sailing night of romance at Savant.

Best Place for Being Entertained while Eating

This is a tough one. Not because there are few choices. Actually, there are many. It's just one person's entertainment is another person's distraction. For that reason, we're recommending The Terrace, one of four restaurants that can be found on the sprawling grounds of the award-winning Buccaneer Resort.

Located at Gallows Bay on the North side of St. Croix, maybe we should name this the Best Place for Being Entertained Before, During, and After Eating. Open for both breakfast and dinner, this is the place to either start or end your day. Before you eat, you can partake in many of the pleasures that are afforded to even non-guests. A tennis match or a round of golf, perhaps? Maybe hike the two-mile nature trail or do some onsite shopping. After you eat, head on over to the Terrace Lounge that opens at 4pm every evening. Enjoy some chilled wine, a frozen drink, or hot fresh coffee and mellow out to the sights and sounds of live entertainment that ranges from limbo lines to steel drum bands.

Dining alfresco with the protection of a roof overhead, the views of the golf course and waterways that lie beyond provide visual entertainment while dining on the likes of rack of lamb and barbequed salmon with a twist of Thai seasoning added to the mix. Have no fear if you have kids that need to be entertained by the food selections; there's a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, and a burger to satisfy even the fussiest eater in the group.

Described as "the island's finest dining room in a hotel," one taste of the food at The Terrace and a stroll of the grounds will leave you feeling very full indeed. If you find this treasure before the last night of your visit to the island, it's likely you'll return to The Terrace and The Buccaneer for another feast of the senses before you depart St. Croix.

Best All-Around Place for Great Food at a Great Price in a Great Island Setting

Few people visit an island to spend their entire dining time indoors. In fact, island life (even if it is only for a week) is best enjoyed outdoors, relaxing in a hammock while gazing out over the ocean. If that sounds like your ideal all-around way to get the most out of your St. Croix days, time spent at Off the Wall is easy on the body, mind, soul, and wallet.

Located just steps away from the beach and near the famous diving spot known as "the Wall" in Cane Bay, this self-described "most laid back beach bar in the Eastern Caribbean," is also often described as an "off-beat" and "funky" place that serves up "barefoot ambiance." This isn't just a hangout for beach bums or scuba fanatics though.

It also isn't just a place to quench your thirst during Happy Hour. And we're not just talking hot dogs, pizza, and burgers, even though they are on the menu. Here you can choose from six pages of items available for lunch and dinner, one page for breakfast, and an entire page devoted to children. Daily specials are also available.

Cap the night off with a free Sunset Shooter as you listen to the sounds of some of the "best local musicians on the island." Who wouldn't enjoy a meal at a restaurant whose motto is "no shirt, no shoes, no problem?" And yes,…there really is a hammock to hang out in. Now you know why we've deemed it the best of the best.
